Forest Therapy is a practice of forest bathing that supports health and wellness through guided immersions to local parks and trails in and around San Antonio.
In Forest Therapy or Forest Bathing, people are guided through a clearly defined sequence of invitations to slowdown, allowing senses to open, and experience the environment. A deepened reciprocal relationship between participants and the land emerges when we slow down . This supports the wholeness and well-being of both. Invitations are open-ended guiding your senses into a journey with the natural surroundings. Reconnecting to our senses taps into our innate creativity and can awaken the imagination. There is no expectation for what participants should experience or receive. Rather, participants spend time in silence, listening and feeling with a quiet stillness or with a energy of playfulness. These Slow Walks in the Forest are typically a few hundred feet up to 1 mile and fit for all ages and physical conditions. Sometimes participants feel so relaxed that stillness and grounding can sets in and we stay on the outdoor blanket we started on!
Most people, even those without any knowledge of health science, will remember feeling healthy in some way. In the past few decades, there has been a massive amount of research done on the health impacts of spending time in nature. Research demonstrates that simply seeing the colors green and blue can ease our bodies toward relaxation. When we activate the senses of the body, we shift attention away from the cycle of thoughts that can often initiate the stress response.
In Forest Therapy, by minimizing cognitive thinking and emphasizing embodied sensations, guides help people find themselves here and now, and through such an act, come more fully alive.
