My journey with lichens began in Alaska, where I first noticed their quiet resilience on bark and stone. In Colombia’s Amazon, I found them again—tiny collaborations of fungus and algae reflecting the same harmony I teach through forest bathing. Now in Texas, I study them daily.
We’ll use hand lenses to explore lichens up close, search together for their hidden worlds, and learn what makes them so incredible. Walks are interpretive and educational, with tiered pricing for accessibility. Length of walk is around .5 miles on paved and natural trail going at a slow intentional, curious pace. Bring good walking shoes and water.
I’m currently writing a creative nonfiction book that traces my travels through Colombia, Alaska, and Texas through the lens of lichens—their symbioses, resilience, and quiet metaphors for human connection. It weaves together science, personal journey, and philosophy to explore how these ancient organisms teach us to live with curiosity, reciprocity, and wonder.
